TEMPERATE CLIMATE ZONE

Variable in summer; cold and wet in winter, with heavy snow on the Andes. To the south of the river Bio-Bio, precipitation increases, with rain or snow year-round.

From the river Aconcagua to Bio-Bio the rains come principally in winter, with an average of 360 millimeters’ accumulation, and an average daytime temperature of 14° C.

Moving south from this river and toward the Gulf of Corcovado, average temperatures diminish (12° C) and the rainfalls increase, to between 943 and 2,488 millimeters. From the Gulf of Corcovado to Cape Horn, the average temperature runs only 9° C, with a precipitation of almost 3 meters-10 feet (2,820 mm).
